A basket buying checklist that starts with measurements
Avoid a purchase based on freezer capacity or a product photograph.
Check the widest part
Use exterior dimensions in the installed handle position. A rim can extend beyond the basket body. Product images and specification text sometimes round measurements differently; use the more conservative dimension until the seller resolves the discrepancy.
Work through one candidate at a time
- Confirm the exact model and variant.
- Record exterior length, width and height.
- Compare the opening and every planned support surface.
- Check stacking instructions if you want multiple layers.
- Add your own practical space for fingers and lifting.
- Compare the number needed with the number sold per pack.
Use a dry run
A paper footprint cut to the listed exterior size can help you understand the layout before ordering. It will not reproduce rims, taper, handles or weight, so it is a visualization aid rather than a fit test. Keep a little uncertainty visible when the plan is close to an exact fit.
Read the results correctly
The planner’s count is the number of rectangles in its selected arrangement. It is not a claim about storage weight, cooling performance, food safety or manufacturer compatibility. Those properties need the relevant product instructions.
